Tuesday, December 27, 2011

Valerie Drautz, is Northport VA Medical Center’s My HealtheVet Coordinator.  She has been serving veterans at Northport for  over 20 years, and works closely with patients, and staff in OEF/OIF, PACT Teams, Women’s Clinic, and Pharmacy.

What is MyHealtheVet?

My HealtheVet is VA’s award-winning online Personal Health Record located at www.myhealth.va.gov

Who can use it?

Veterans, active duty Service members, Families, Caregivers and others anywhere, anytime internet access to health care information, resources, and tools.

Why should you use it?

My HealtheVet gives you one place to view your health information. This is most powerful when you are a VA patient with an enhanced account. If you are enrolled in a VA facility, registered on My HealtheVet and have an enhanced account, you can:
* refill your VA prescriptions online by viewing your medication names
* get VA Wellness Reminders
* see your VA Appointments
* when available, participate in Secure Messaging with your health care team

How do you register?

Type www.myhealth.va.gov in the address bar on your web browser, and the press enter.  This takes you to VA’s My Healthiest website. On the right hand side of the screen, click the Register Today button.  Complete the registration page. Items in red must be completed.  Name information must match veteran’s VIC card and relationship to VAMC must have VA Patient  & Veteran otherwise In Person Authentication will not work.  Veteran needs to choose User ID and Password and follow the rules that apply.

What is in person authentication and how do you get authenticated?

In Person Authentication is VA Form 10-5345a which can be printed of the MHV website or also available at their VA Facility through MHV Coordinator, Release Of Information or admission/Eligibility area.  The veteran needs to bring in signed form and ID (Veterans Identification Card “VIC” or driver’s license) to show an authorized VA staff member to verify their identification.

What is secure messaging and what are the benefits?

Secure Messaging via My HealtheVet is a web-based message system that allows participating VA patients and VA health care teams to communicate non-urgent, health related information in a private and safe computer environment.  Secure Messaging is not e-mail, but an encrypted secure communication tool available through My HealtheVet.  Participating users may access Secure Messaging 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on www.myhealth.va.gov. Secure Messaging promotes a partnership between the patient and their health care team by providing them a safe, alternative communication means that is convenient and flexible.  It reduces the need for telephone calls and waiting on hold.

Who do you call if you have questions?

If the veteran has questions, they can either contact Valerie Drautz at (631) 261-4400 ext. 5358 or contact the MHV Helpdesk which is a link right on the website for them to utilize.
