D. Scott Guermonprez, FACHE has been selected for Director Northport VA Medical Center effective June 26, 2017. Previous to accepting that position he was the Director for the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center since September 18, 2016. Mr. Guermonprez oversees the delivery of health care at the VA Medical Center and its eleven Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), that serve over 42,000 Veterans throughout eastern NY, western Massachusetts and Vermont. The Medical Center has an operating budget of $205 million and employs more than 1,200 employees.
Mr. Guermonprez is a retired Air Force Colonel with over thirty years of active duty military service. He joined VA in June, 2014, appointed as Albany VAMC’s Associate Medical Center Director. Since November, 2015, he has held several key leadership positions, including his most recent appointment as Albany VAMC’s Interim Director. Prior to working at Albany VAMC, Mr. Guermonprez served in multiple executive management and leadership positions within the Department of Defense, directing large scale health care delivery systems at six medical centers and three headquarter locations, including three years as Medical Center Director for the 82nd Medical Group at Sheppard Air Force Base, 11 months as Associate Director (Director for Administration) at the Medical Education and Training Campus, Ft Sam Houston, TX, and serving as a Research Fellow at the RAND Corporation.
Mr. Guermonprez holds a Master of Science in Management, has a dual Board Certification as a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Academy of Medical Administrators, and has extensive experience with Joint Commission Accreditation of Healthcare Inspections, to include being personally recognized for consistent Best Practices.

Chief of Staff
As Chief of Staff, Dr. Kaufman is responsible for the development, organization, implementation and support of patient care, education, research, and allied health sciences.
Dr. Kaufman is the ranking medical official at Northport and is responsible for the quality of care and utilization of health care resources. Dr. Kaufman is also responsible for the maintenance of the affiliation of the Northport VAMC with the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Dr. Kaufman has been with the Department of Veterans Affairs since 1992, beginning as an attending neurology physician at Northport VA Medical Center at that time. He became the Chief, Neurology Service at Northport in 1994 and added the position of Associate Chief of Staff for Education at Northport VA in 2002.
Dr. Kaufman is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and received his M.D. in 1979 from Albany Medical College.

Director, Nursing Services
Prior to her appointment as Northport VAMC’s Associate Director for Patient Care/Nursing Services, Ms. Burke held the same position at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System. Prior to that, Ms. Burke was the Associate Chief Nurse for Geriatrics and Extended Care at Northport for 12 years and temporarily served as the Acting ADPC/NS at the James J. Peters VAMC in the Bronx in 2010. She has also held positions as the Associate Chief Nurse Critical Care and Surgery, Nurse Manager of Emergency Services and Nurse Manager of ICU at Northport. She holds certifications in Critical care - CCRN and is an ACLS Instructor.
Ms. Burke received her BSN with honors from the University of Virginia, and her Master of Science in Nursing, FNP and GNP with honors from Stony Brook University. Ms. Burke is a graduate of the Northeast Health Care Leadership Institute, the Federal Executive Institute Nurse Executives and the Executive Career Field Candidate (ECF). She is a member of the AACN and ACHE and the NYSGNA.
